If you know me, you’ll know that I always have a new cafe, eatery or bistro I’m just waiting to give a try. I have a camera roll full of screenshots of instagram and website recommendations for potential lunch destinations.
One I’d recently taken of Auckland Food Blogger Courtney Ellya’s Instagram (@afoodawakening), tempted me to take a short drive over to Ponsonby to try Fred’s Espresso and Soda Bar.
On the corner of Ponsonby Road and Franklin Street, right behind Fred’s bright orange door there are milkshakes to try, meals to munch and espressos to sip.
Well renowned for unique milkshake flavours, I dived out of my comfort zone (which consists of the classic chocolate option only) and ordered their Apple Pie flavoured milkshake.
Unique is definitely the right word – but I really enjoyed it and nearly bought a bottle to take home. Although I didn’t buy anything off the food menu, the prices seem really reasonable with nothing rolling over the $15 mark.
Beverages ranging from Ginger Lattes to Salted Caramel milkshakes, Fred’s definitely won’t disappoint. Their range of drinks make other drink menus look pathetic. What’s more, Fred’s offers a small outdoor area which will be perfect for up and coming summer mornings or late afternoon bites to eat.
